| Typical products: Lead-crystal glass |
Apart from food and wine, no other product in Colle Val d’Elsa is more of a local speciality, and more traditional, than lead-crystal glass.
The first documents attesting to glass production, which only began to specialize in lead-crystal production much more recently, are found in the Statutes of the 'comune' of Colle dating to 1331, and these form part of an uninterrupted tradition which continues to this day.
Colle di Val d'Elsa produces 95% of all the lead-crystal glass made in Italy, and 14% of all the world’s lead-crystal glass. Its output is of high quality, and of great beauty and variety, making it the ultimate gift article.
